Oakville MCM I vs Georgetown Meteors
Game Result: MCM I 7 Georgetown Meteors 2
Oakville stamped their authority on the match and the league with an impressive display of ruthless football.
Oakville stamped their authority on the match and the league with an impressive display of ruthless football.
But it wasn't just about the goals. It was another inspiring selfless team effort that brought all 3 points. Everyone deserves a mention, but George Rajic, sporting the latest in figure-hugging football wear, epitomised the MCM work ethic by filling in for Drew Patient who pulled out through injury early on. Deni O'Rielly also deserves thanks leaving an important family function to help the MCM cause.
We can't let today go without saying "Bon Voyage", "Au Revoir" and whatever "you lucky bugger" is in French to PK.
He's been a rock on this team for many years and will be missed in the run-in to the league and cup.
Let's hope he keep his cheery English manner and is not influenced by those pompous Frenchmen.
With a bit of luck he'll arrange a tour of France for us in 2012 !!
A big thank you to Rose Gonzalez who generously provided a fine selection of tapas for the post-game celebrations.
Oakville MCM III vs Georgetown
Game Result: MCM III 1 Georgetown 3
Away at Georgetown, MCM III came up short against a fully equipped Georgetown squad.
MCM applied early pressure to try and take the lead, highlighted by a strike from distance from Anthony Giglio that rattled the crossbar and a beautiful series of once touch passing plays from Keith Malone & Joe Giglio, which ended with a glorious opportunity for Jimmy Heffron, that went over the bar. Lack of early finishing continued to haunt the MCM squad, when for the second game in a row, a defensive foul in our own 18 yard box, granted the opposition a penalty shot, which was dubiously converted. (Off the post and directly back to the penalty spot and placed back into the corner by the shooter?.........Ref are you sure you got this right?)
A loose ball in our own 3rd of the pitch was converted by Georgetown, leaving MCM III down 2-0 at the half.
The second half saw MCM trying to push for a goal, and unfortunately this tactic generated another converted counter-opportunity for Georgetown. Despite being down, MCM continued to press, highlighted by a save by the Georgetown keeper, off a free-kick from Anthony Giglio and finally a goal off the head of Mike Gentile which broke the Georgetown keeper's shut-out. (Silver lining!)
MAN OF THE MATCH: Mike Borelli for the his strong defending and Cameron Flynn for his relentless tracking.
Oakville MCM United vs B&K
Game Result: MCM United 7 B&K 1
United took the pitch again last night for quite an entertaining contest. A night of 16 peanuts, toilet paper rolls, and a pitch with only 2 lights working in the dark.
The baby blue were up to face the ever dangerous B&K. With only 13 players United took the pitch with the eye of the tiger on this night. Starting in goal was Jason " the in law host" Watts who was up to every shot. That meant that Gregg " check the wind " Marshal would be on the pitch to fire in a cross to Al " 16 peanut shells " Vukcevic for a header that put united up 1-0. B&K would score the next on a rancid pass back by Phil " off to see Napoleon" Kennedy that left a B&K striker 1 on 1 with the United keeper that Watts almost stopped. The score was now 1-1.
For the first time in my life I watched a center midfielder Phil " anyone find my black sock?" Ionadi take 2 blasts from just inside the box that hit the same defender not once but twice square in the head on consecutive plays. The silky midfielder would also hit the post later in the contest. 5 minutes later Rob " pass it to the post from the corner flag" Rusnov laid in a nice cross where Denny " late again" O'rielly placed a sweet header passed the B&K keeper. The teams went in at half time with the score 2-1 MCM. The second half fired up United as the Carworx Crew saw Drew " The master builder" Patient break down the wing from the right back position making two beautiful crosses one to the head of Rusnov and the other to the head of Kennedy but both resulting in goals.
Now up 4-1, one of the most interesting plays of the season took place when Rusnov was sent wide on a pass from his strike partner, only yards away from the right side corner flag Rusnov struck a cross, no wait it was a shot, no, a cross, wait off the post and in, yes a shot with multiple teammates in the box to pass to, in only his second united appearance Rusnov hit the score sheet from one of the most ridiculous angles ever scored. Now 5-1 united but the Baby Blue kept coming.
At about the 70 minute mark up top receiving a ball from O'rielly was Steve " it’s ok guys, I'll bring the balls, the beer, the corner flags, the spare kits, the keys to the lights that don't work and complain about it all night" Delaney who with the keeper way off his line stroked a left footed blast from well outside the box that found the back of the net for 6-1 united. Coming back on the pitch for the final 15 minutes Vukcevic made another streaking run where he finished in the top corner while aiming for the bottom to seal the deal at 7-1 for MCM.
Man of the Match: Alex Vukcevic
Princess of the Match: The Town Of Oakville for the lack of lights.
