Oakville MCM I vs Cougars S.C
Game Result: MCM I 3 Cougars S.C. 1
Several changes for MCM in today's away game against an always dangerous Cougars outfit.
For once Oakville started well and looked very sharp, using the full width of the massive pitch, and keeping the Cougars keeper busy. One move that started with Jon Morgan hitting a streaking Ray Wark who in turn fed Chris Burton only for his effort to bounce just wide, was the pick of the bunch.
MCM opened their account on 25 minutes from a set piece. Phil Ionadi's flat free kick picked out Chris Burton who finished with a clinical header.
There was a very unfortunate incident 5 minutes later when a Cougar's player went in for a 50-50 tackle and broke his leg.
The ref called an early halt to the half and both coaches agreed to 45 minute second half.
To their credit Cougars stormed back at MCM after the re-start and deservedly equalised with a somewhat lucky deflected goal past the solid Spencer, who also made a brilliant flying save to deny a Cougar's head.
This made MCM up the tempo and it wasn't long before Nesa Stefanovic with 2 goals sealed the 3 points.
A fine effort from everyone.
Man of the Match: Matt Braithwaite, for his tireless work shadowing Cougar's top player.
A special mention to the Cougars coach and players. They could have easily thrown in the towel after the unfortunate accident, but insisted on completing the game. MCM wish the Cougar's player a full and speedy recovery.
MCM II vs Mississauga West
Game Result: MCM II 3 Mississauga West 2
MCM II took on a Mississauga West team that we looking for revenge for an earlier defeat to the Oakville side in June. Mississauga came to this game with a full squad and were hoping to take advantage of rotating players on the pitch with a full bench.
The game started off with plenty of midfield action but it was Mississauga who were creating plenty of chances and looked the most likely to score the opener. MCM dug in and started to win the second ball in the middle of the park after about 20 minutes, creating some great chances for the quick MCM forwards who outpaced the Mississauga defence, more chance's came for both sides but it was an even match up to half time.
On the 50 minute mark, MCM took the lead with a lovely worked goal started on the right hand flank by Patrice Darcheville who's cross was well saved and followed up by Carlo Ciconte and second was added soon afterwards by Mike Pesic but Mississauga West did not give in, they came back with 15 minutes left in the game and took advantage of some poor defending to get back in the game. MCM responded 5 minutes later with a great run by Richard Whyte who rounded the keeper and restored MCM's 2 goal advantage. The last ten minutes was all Mississauga West who did manage to get another goal back but were just not strong enough to get any closer.
Excellent win for MCM against a Mississauga West team who came to play and were by far the best opponents so far this campaign...
This result keeps MCM up the top with MCM I level on points and goals so will make for a great game when the teams meet on August 7th.....
Oakville MCM III vs Brampton
Game Result: MCM III 3 Brampton 3
On this day MCM III made the move to the North Park turf in ideal football weather vs Brampton.
MCM showed up with a full compliment against a strong side even though they were lacking subs on the bench. To their credit, Brampton opened the scoring on a blistering shot to the far post from about 15 yards about 15 minutes in to the half.
MCM III stormed back, led by the return of Sal Borgh to the lineup who replied with a crisp shot over the keeper to the far post from about 25 yards out. After a coaching stint for the past several weeks, Sal's fiery ways were back and it showed as he responded again before the half with a beautiful chip from 20 yards as the keeper was caught cheating off his line. 2-1 at the half which included some great saves from Jason to keep our lead into the break.
In the second half MCM continued to pressure, Brampton fought back and just wouldn’t go away...the leveled the score early into the second half on a great individual counter attack run which found the net. 2-2.
MCM took the lead on a great diving save from the Brampton goalie, which lead to a goal mouth scramble that Davey Pergavie found the twine and put MCM into the lead. Great focus and finish from BIG SEXY! Way to go Davey! 8 minutes from the final whistle saw Brampton tie the game and earn a much deserved point on a 6 yard tap in.
Final Score :3-3 DRAW
