MCM I vs. Cougars S.C.

Game Result: MCM I 3 vs Cougars S.C. 2
On the first really hot day of the year, MCM entertained Cougars at the new artificial pitch at North Park. The match was moved to help Shell Park recover from a very wet Spring.
MCM started slowly again, with wayward passing the most noticeable problem, but went ahead after 15 minutes with a Matt Braithwaite penalty.
A determined Cougars side maintained their high tempo and deservedly equalized 25 minutes in with a fine strike from 20 yards. 1-1 at half-time.
MCM looked a different outfit after the re-start. They started to move the ball around well and Cougars finally ran out of steam in the scorching heat. Goals from Denny O'Rielly and Chris Burton secured a 2 goal lead, before the visitors made it close with a second.
However, MCM had little trouble playing out the last 2 minutes ensuring another solid win for the Oakville lads.

MCM II vs. Mississauga West

Game Result: MCM II 2 vs Mississauga West 1
MCM II’s 2nd match of the season was away to a well organized Mississauga West, which saw 6 yellow cards.
MCM II began strongly and dominated possession until Mississauga hit the post and began to get back into the game. On 21 mins Carlo Ciconte’s stunning 25 yard drive brought out the best of the home keeper. As the 2nd half continued, the home team became stronger and, against the run of play, Chris Francis dribbled the ball past several defenders and curled in from outside the box to score for MCM right on half time! 1 - 0
The second half saw MCM dominate again early on until a defensive mess gifted their equalizer.1 - 1. Two minutes later (63rd minute) Patrice Darcheville rifled home from just inside the area. 2 – 1 to MCM. On 78 mins Giancarlo D’Uva struck the Mississauga crossbar from a 25 yard free kick as MCM confidence continued to grow, with attacks frequently down both wings.
Both teams had chances in the last 10 minutes but a well organized defence and a battling midfield just about kept control for MCM as the referee brought an end to a pulsating match. A very good team performance.

MCM III vs. Brampton

Game Result: MCM III 2 vs. Brampton 2
After a number of cancelled games, MCM III finally got their season started, with a 2-2 draw in their first game in the 2nd division, away at Brampton.
The game's first goal saw Brampton take the lead half-way through the first-half, on a deflected ball which found an open Brampton player, in front of the MCM III goal. Despite the lead by Brampton, MCM III found their groove and after spending almost the entire remainder of the first-half, attacking in the Brampton zone, MCM III were rewarded with a strike by Mike Gentile, after a poor clearing attempt by the Brampton keeper!
The second-half proved to be a see-saw affair, with many swings in momentum and stellar saves by both goal keepers. Brampton was able to bury an opportunity to put them up 2-1, which certainly put the pressure on the MCM III side to "fight back!" Fight back they did, highlighted by a body sacrificing save from Jason Watts, which ended in him being replaced in goal, due to injury.
Finally, after a number of opportunities, MCM III found their equalizer off a fantastic left-footed corner by Mario Ruiz, which met the top corner of the net, off of the powerful head of Jimmy Heffron!
The last 10 minutes saw both teams miss opportunities to score the game winner, and MCM III replacement keeper Keith Malone, was a key contributor to maintaining the draw!
Man of the match goes to: JIMMY HEFFRON for his stellar defensive play and game tying goal!

Next Game: AWAY at Oakville Athletic

MCM United vs. Streetsville Lions

Game Result: MCM United 11 vs. Steetsville Lions 0
For the 2011 campaign, the MCM Thursday squad has dawned the new title of MCM United. A perfect name for a team where players of the entire MCM club come together to present a UNITED front on both the pitch and the in parking lot circle afterward!
After a day time issue as to whether or not there would be lights for last night’s game, the city of Oakville was able to put their heads together and loan the Bronte pitch for the night’s contest. MCM United were 19 players strong for the first match of the season.
Early highlights included the season’s first goal form Matt "don't worry guys I will call Gail" Braithwaite who later added a second to the score sheet. Jessie "Top Gear" Gisel seemed to have the after burners firing at full blast up and down the right side of the pitch. After a quick sub, Jessie introduced the long anticipated presence of his beautiful wife Nicole who had sparked the jet fuel in the young schnitzel’s gas tank. The try outs for the NFL team seemed to be in full effect as both Nesha "I can't believe I got gout again" Stefanovic and Phil "9 Iron" Kennedy had multiple successful field goal attempts pass through the yellow uprights . The duo also found the back of the football net on more than one occasion. Up top after a long awaited break was Mike "My yellow boots aren't as bad as Joey's" Pesic made his return with a explanation point as he scored his first of the season.
The Streetsville Lions really had no answer offensively as they could not get past the United's new Keeper Mike "I actually will play in goal on Thursday" Chaloupka. Jim "Give and Go" Heffron also made his first mark on the score sheet with a wonderful combination of one two plays from right back that saw him on the end of a pass where he struck home a well placed finish.
Later in the second half, the big eared defender Steve "Officer why don't you give me a breathalyzer" Delaney had himself involved in two stunning plays that resulted in two stunning goals. The first was a cross that many thought was a shot across the box to a waiting Pesic with yellow boots a blazing, only to be intercepted by a goal hungry Kennedy, who finished for his second of the night. The 11th and final goal was a result of a set piece the was taken by Joe "Um ya I will take a cab home" Giglio who placed the free kick where only Delaney could get it.
With the ears flapping in the night breeze, Delaney struck home with a powerful blast of his shiny bald head. This marked the end of the first match of the season and the first win for MCM United!!!
The Man of the match and the after Match Matt Braithwaite but really Gail!!!
The Princess of the Match Delaney. I knew I would F something up.

See you next week at Bronte again at 9pm
