MCMI vs. Brampton Eagles
Game Result: MCMI 3 vs Brampton Eagles 2
The much anticipated first league game of the season on a very heavy Shell against difficult opposition.
Last year Eagles established themselves in Division I and are looking to improve on that in 2011.
MCM welcomed back Ray Wark from a year away in Florida and new signing Denny O'Rielly.
From the start Eagles took the game to MCM. They were hard to contain and deservedly went ahead with a great strike from 25 yards that keeper Geoff Currie may well have saved on a drier day. Slowly MCM got back in the game as Eagles' early energy faded.
MCM levelled after 25 minutes after good work from Jon Morgan and Phil Kennedy. Kennedy found Chris Burton at the far post who nodded down for Nesa Stefanovic to finish. 1-1 at half time and all to play for.
The second half saw MCM take the game to Eagles and it was Stefanovic who put them ahead when he finished with a fine header after a pin-point cross from Morgan.
Denny O'Rielly marked a fine debut by out-muscling an Eagles defender and firing across the goal for Thomas Atkinson to turn it in.
With 2 minutes to go Eagles pulled one back from the penalty spot but MCM ran out deserving winners with everyone playing their part.
A solid start to the season for the MCM lads who look like they're up to the challenge of defending their title.
MCMII vs. SMT
Game Result: MCM II 6 vs SMT 0
This week’s game was against SMT who came up with us last year and it was a must win for MCM II to get the season off to a good start.
The game started slowly with both teams getting use to a very wet and sloppy pitch. As each team battled with the conditions small errors caused each team problems early on. As the game proceeded through the 15 minute mark, some great build up play from MCMII saw the ball finally hit the net with Chris Francis scoring the opening goal. After this it was all MCM to the break who added another 3 goals through Tony Swaminathian, an own goal, followed by another from Chris Francis.
The second half started slowly for MCM II as SMT really fought to get back in the game and a few changes were needed to help MCM regain focus. A great free kick by Rogerio Marques and another from Mike Pesic sealed a 6-0 win for MCM II.
Great start to the season and an excellent team effort!
