Game Result: MCMIII 3 vs Ebony 0
MCMIII went into our final 3 games needing to win all three to win the 3rd division championship in what turned out to be a tight top four race.
First up....home makeup game with Ebony ll at West Oak Trails under the lights. MCM lll meant business from the opening whistle with Mike Ward converting on some good fore checking to open the scoring about 10 minutes in. Anthony Giglio later struck a volley from the top of the box into the far corner.
The second half continued with more dominating MCM play and some sand paper to pace the Ebony flow. Anthony Giglio with another brilliant strike on the post to secure the final. 3-0 victory. 1 down and 2 games to go.
MCMIII - Milton
Game Result: MCMIII 5 vs Milton 0
In our last home date of the season MCM lll came out with a full compliment and a lunch box type work ethic as we knew our destiny was in our control. A short handed 10 men Milton squad played their hearts out but were no match for MCM lll. The result was never in question.
Goal markers : Mike Ward (2), Mike Gentile, Sean Steimer, Chris Impey. Excellent shut down performance again by our fullbacks, lead by Gianni Piccolo, Mike Borelli, Joey Giglio, Greg Cappacitti. Let’s not forget Jason, with 2 clean sheets in 48 hours. Final Score MCM lll 5-0. Two down and 1 to go.
MCM Carworx vs. Polonia
Game Result: MCM Carworx 2 vs. Polonia 2
The Baby Blue were back at it again this Thursday, as the Carworx Crew stormed into the playoffs with a tough first round match up vs team Pompus. The previous two battles came away with one win each side. The whistle blew and not 43 seconds into the match but 42 to seconds in Behn" I am not afraid of you, I played in England for 10 years" Wurthman fizzed in a cross where Peter " age is just a number " Ranells was in position waiting to strike home the first goal of the contest. Carworx held the lead thanks to the solid defending from its back 4 and the outstanding play of Greg " the bacon saver" Marshal. Returning after a long break to the pitch was Rob " CAA" Anderson who closed out the first half and started the first 15 minutes of the second in the center midfield position. At the half the score remained 1-0 for the good guys. In the second half with the strong wind against them ( not wind from the mouth or backsides of the sideline) Carworx seemed to calm the play and take more control of the match. Multiple scoring opportunities seemed to present themselves but with little success. Then, about 30 minutes in Wurthman who was just subbed back on the pitch won a ball in mid field and then made a stellar back post run where a perfect pass from Nesha " GOUT MASTER FLASH" Stefanovic was placed. Nothing left to do but " JUST TAP IT IN" like Happy Gilmour. Baby blue up 2 nil.
Late pressure seemed to come from both sides, Pompus was able to tally one on the score sheet but it was not enough. In the dying minutes there were multiple chances to put the final nail in the coffin from the likes of Joey " Stevo come on up top and crash some skulls" Bilotta, Phil " I'm going to run my pretty little bag off" Kennedy and Sid " be calm you don't need a black eye to go with you Tux" Dasilva, but it was not to be, and on this night it wasn't needed.
Man of the Match Greg Marshall
Buzzard of the match the Groom of Doom!!!!!
Guys the first step we talked about has been taken. Realize that we are now in the driver’s seat to get to the Special place called Back to Back Champion land, where the Detroit Pistons, the 76 and 77 Liverpool squad and, the New England Patriots all live. We are not there yet and still have to win three more games to make it happen. We cannot take anyone lightly, and lets go after this and win it with class. A few acknowledgments from last night:
- Hats off to Dave Purgavie for pulling himself from the line up in order to fulfill our officiating duties
- All the guys who played limited minutes to help us to victory. I don't know if you feel this on the field but when we sub in a player and he makes a great play it is a huge emotional lift for the entire team and I think it is a big part of why we won. Hats off to Sid, Mario, Sickey, Coz, Andy, Laurent, Rob, and Jessie
- They play of Matt B, Drew, Jim and John Stewart, with a back 4 playing like that we will be tough to beat
- I saw Ruben complete 3 slide tackles, and 1 elbow defensively. Maybe we should smack him in the face before each game?
- The play of Peter Ranells, truly inspirational
- The battery wattage of JBs boots, good thing we live close to Niagara falls or we may not have enough power to light those things up
- We may as well ask Hellen Keller, Ray Charles, or Stevie Wonder or even my 94 year old grandmother to referee instead of that ref from last night
- The Play and Energy that Mario Brought to the Pitch when he went in.
- The smile of Sicky after a win with one beer in booth hands
- Man I love winning with all you guys!!!!!
Step 2 now get to the final!!!!!!!!!
